Bank of England
Monetary Analysis and Financial Stability Areas
The Bank of England is the central bank for the United Kingdom. Its core purposes are to ensure monetary stability and to support financial stability. In addition, it manages the UK’s foreign currency reserves, issues banknotes and acts as the bankers’ bank.
The Bank provides a unique environment in which economic analysis and research inform policy at the highest level. The Monetary Analysis area provides key analytical support in the setting of monetary policy to help achieve the United Kingdom’s inflation target. The Bank’s Financial Stability area takes a strong role in designing measures to build a more resilient financial system in the wake of the crisis and is at the forefront in developing a new macroprudential risk assessment and policy framework in preparation for the formation of the new Financial Policy Committee.
We are offering PhD internships for two to three months on projects that are relevant for monetary policy and financial stability based both in the Financial Stability and Monetary Analysis areas of the Bank. On some projects, interns may be estimating on onsite-only datasets jointly with our staff. These datasets include real-time macroeconomic data, monetary data, data on international banking groups, interbank payments and bank balance sheets.
Timings of individual internships are flexible.
